Region
Banyuls sur Mer is a French Catalan coastal village on the Spanish boarder. It is famous for fortified Grenache based wines, although the appellation is within the CĂ´tes de Roussillon. These can be port style wines of immense concentration and subtlety and often aged for long periods in cask.
Producer
The estate Cornet et Cie straddles the seaside town of Collioure and the neighbouring region of Banyuls. Their wines are carefully vinified by the Caves de Abbe Rous, who preserve the typical taste of their unique `terroir`.
Tasting (Long)
An oak matured Banyuls fortified dessert wine with a natural sweetness similar to a tawny Port. It is made from 100% old Grenache grapes grown at altitude inland of Perpignan in the Roussillon. The extended oak ageing complements and softens and the naturally firm structure and rich red berry fruit. Excellent matched with chocolate and fruit desserts.
