The steep slate and schist soil vineyards on the banks of the Mosel are almost exclusively planted with Riesling. This environment provides classic mineral and lime flavours from Riesling, allied to intense flavour and acidity.
The Thanisch estate dates back to 1650 and thrives today under the direction of Sofia Thanisch. The vineyards rise steeply behind the town of Bernkastel in the picturesque Mosel Valley. Beneath the vineyards the cellars are hewn deep into the rock, allowing the wines to mature in traditional `Fuder` oak casks.
The famous Bercastler Doctor vineyard rises steeply behind the town of Bernkastel on the picturesque Mosel. The severe 60% slope of slate soil supports old, un-grafted Riesling vines that yield one of the greatest white wines of Germany. This off dry Riesling has intense classic mineral and lime flavours, floral aromas of elderflower and honeysuckle with ripe pear and lemony acidity. Well balanced with naturally low alcohol and an attractive long finish.

It will partner Asian dishes, cold seafood and white meats particularly well.
