Region
The Côte de Nuits follows a narrow strip of red iron-rich soils that run the short distance south from Dijon to the town of Nuits St Georges and ends before the hill of Corton. It is perhaps the source of the greatest and most elusive Pinot Noir wines of Burgundy. To travel through this northern half of the Côte d`Or evokes a role call of great vineyard names; Gevrey, Vosne Romanée, Clos de Vougeot, Musigny, Nuits St Georges and more.
Producer
The Domaine Tardy was born from the gift of vineyards in 1945, received by Victor Tardy from his employers, Domaine Meo-Camuzet. Subsequent parcels have added the great names of the Côtes de Nuits to the estate, Vosne Romanée, Clos Vougeot and Echezeaux included. Traditional wine making and tiny yields ensure powerful, velvety, rich red Burgundy with long aging potential. A contemporary influence is offered by Jean Tardy`s son Guillaume, with the experience of a stint in Australia.
Tasting (Long)
Les Athets is a tiny plot of 40 year old Pinot Noir vines located on the lower slopes of Chambolle where the exposure ensures a ripe wine with plenty of dark fruits and a firm structure. A fragrant aroma of ripe cherries and raspberries predominates with powerful, well integrated black cherry and spice on the palate.
Tasting (Short)
A ripe and fragrant aroma of ripe cherries and raspberries predominates with black cherry and spice on the palate.
Food
Serve with chicken or rabbit casseroles, roast duck or pork filet and mild soft cheeses.
