Region

The Côte de Nuits follows a narrow strip of red iron-rich soils that run the short distance south from Dijon to the town of Nuits St Georges and ends before the hill of Corton. It is perhaps the source of the greatest and most elusive Pinot Noir wines of Burgundy. To travel through this northern half of the Côte d`Or evokes a role call of great vineyard names; Gevrey, Vosne Romanée, Clos de Vougeot, Musigny, Nuits St Georges and more.

Producer

This small 13 acre domaine is run by Vincent Geantet, who also heads the Gevrey town fire brigade! His daughter Emily studied oenology in Dijon and now undertakes the winemaking responsibilities. The domaine is renowned for village Premier and Grand Cru wines of Chambertin.

Tasting (Long)

This domaine consistently produces wines from `vieilles vignes`, from plots of vines up to 90 years old, that exhibit good colour, a spicy, meaty, robust character with velvety structure and a powerful finish. The style is elegant yet concentrated for Gevrey, with round tannins and ripe, silky fruit.

Food

A good accompaniment to roast meats, beef and game casseroles, as well as cheeses.
