Region
The region of La Rioja lends its name to Spain`s most widely recognised wines. Much Rioja is blended from three districts; Alta and Alevesa to the north and the hot dry Baja district to the south, and uses Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo red grape varieties and the diminishing influence of extended aging in oak barrels.
Producer
The Bodegas was established some 50 years ago by the Forner family, who at the time were owners of a Grand Cru Classe property in Bordeaux. It is situated in the village of Cenicero, in the heart of the Rioja Alta. They are true pioneers in Rioja, with a philosophy to produce wines that are an expression of the fruit and terroir of the region, with their red wines enhanced by judicious ageing in French oak, as well as introducing `unoaked` white and rose wines.
Tasting (Long)
Made from selected older vineyards, using the optimum handpicked traditional blend of Tempranillo and Graciano grapes, and aged in new French oak barrels for 18 months. A lively and intense bouquet of autumn berries combines with spice, vanilla and smoky aromas. Rich, elegant and long lasting complex fruit flavours rest on a structure of velvety soft tannins, a balance that will allow continued development with maturity.
