Region
At almost 1,000 metres altitude, the Orange region in the Blue Mountains of NSW, is one of the highest and coolest vineyards in Australia, often exposed to ice and snow. An extended growing period encourages complexity and elegance in the wines. Particularly successful varieties are Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Merlot.
Producer
Mayfield Vineyard was established in 1998 by Richard Thomas, Australian wine industry veteran with his goal to produce the finest wines from the Orange region of NSW. It is one of the highest vineyards in Australia, at around 900 meters above sea level. With a north easterly aspect, the estate experiences an extended ripening period, allowing for the development of wines with complex flavours with natural balance. In its short and illustrious history, Mayfield Vineyard has already achieved both a 5 star rating from James Halliday, (this is awarded only to outstanding wineries producing wines of exemplary and typicity) and Best Winery in the Orange Region. These results are a testament to their focus on limited production wines, of the highest quality.
