Region
Although small, Central Otago is a rapidly developing wine growing region with an international reputation for Pinot Noir. The only inland wine region of New Zealand and at 45 degrees, this is the world`s southernmost winemaking location. 100% pure New Zealand, cool and stunning, this outstandingly beautiful mountainous area rises to over 2000m with the vines planted amongst the spectacular alpine scenery. These vineyards are also the highest in NZ, and therefore perfect for Pinot Noir and aromatic white wines.
Producer
Boutique winery Mt Difficulty was an early pioneer in the region. With their founding vineyards established in 1992, Mt Difficulty owns some of the oldest vines and is one of the most respected producers in Central Otago. Situated on the famous Felton Road in Bannockburn, this is a unique and rare area of extremes. Mt Difficulty has harnessed this once brutal terrain to produce premium wines at the forefront of Otago`s and some say New Zealand`s, finest wine production.
Tasting (Long)
Recently rated 5 Stars in Decanter, this aromatic Pinot Gris grows really well in the cool climatic conditions and produces a dry white with aromas of peach and nectarine. The front palate displays vibrant, clean fruit, whilst the mid palate is full, creamy and well textured followed by a rich grapefruit driven finish.
Tasting (Short)
Recently rated 5 Stars in Decanter, one of Central Otago`s finest aromatic white wines grown in tiny quantities at their Bannockburn Estate. Expressive nectarine on the nose, creamy well textured palate and a fresh grapefruit driven finish.
Food
Sushi, Singapore noodles, river fish like trout and tandoori dishes.
