Region

This beautiful region is situated 200Km south of Paris and extends west along the high reaches of the Loire River. This is a cold climate northern wine making region and includes the following famous villages; Sancerre, Pouilly Sur Loire, Quincy and Menetou-Salon. There are only two permitted grape varieties, namely, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The soils have a high percentage of flint and limestone and this results in crisp, aromatic whites and perfumed, elegant rose and reds. Littered with artisan producers, the best single domaine wines are made in small quantities and are of top drawer quality. In recent years, the demand for the best wines in the region has exceeded supply.

Producer

Founded in 1850 Domaine Laporte sits on the edge of a valley known as La Cassure de Sancerre. This unique geological formation is divided into two distinct soil types. limestone hills on one side of the valley, flint hills on the opposite side. Grapes grown on each of these different soils are vinified accordingly by each parcel. This careful respect for soil typicity and place gives each wine an individual expression and personality. Owned by the incomparable Henri Bourgeois this show piece estate is renowned for being a top quality producer of both Pouilly Fume and Sancerre and has collected a bundle of awards and medals over the last decade or so.

Tasting (Long)

The word `Cresle` originates from Craie, which means chalk, on which the vineyards are planted. The wine is pale salmon in colour with a subtle nose of wild strawberries. On the palate it is delicate and soft with elegant red fruit character and well balanced acidity. Clean and dry with a crisp, refreshing finish.
