Region

This large region surrounds the city of Santiago and extends from the Andean foothills west to the Pacific coast. Much of the vineyard has been established in the warmer Santiago suburbs and supplied high quality Merlots and Cabernets to the capital. More exciting development is coming from new vineyard plantings in the less accessible coastal land, south of the San Antonio Valley, where coastal fogs prolong ripening and create intense varietal flavours.

Producer

Vina Tres Palacios is a family-run wine cellar established in 1996 by the Palacios family. The winery and vineyards are situated in a beautiful sub valley called Cholqui which means `birds head` in the native language. This special location sits 250 metres above sea level and stands exposed to cool breezes that come off the Pacific Ocean. Patricio Palacios pioneered the planting of vineyards in this location striving to make Chilean varietal wines which reflect the uniqueness of its terroir and place, his lifetime ambition.

Tasting (Long)

The Palacios family established their winery in 1996 near the coast in Maipo Valley where warm days and cool nights offer perfect conditions to create sylish and elegant wines. This Cabernet has a deep red colour with a nose of red fruits like raspberries and wild strawberries. Some hints of black pepper and cassis can also be found. In the mouth, a hint of sweetness is balanced with some spiciness. Soft and expressive, the wine is well structured but with graceful tannins achieved from a good balance between fruit and French oak

Tasting (Short)

Soft and delicate, a hint of sweetness with red fruit and some spiciness yet well structured with soft tannins achieved from a good balance between fruit and French oak.

Food

It is ideal to accompany pasta with red sauces, mild curried dishes, grilled red meats and casseroles.
