An area of contrasts.
Tupungato is a department in the province of Mendoza and takes its name from a volcano in the area, one of Argentina's highest peaks. At 1400 metres above sea level, the region has planted areas of fruit (mainly peach)and garlic. However, grapes represent the largest area covered and the area has attracted huge investment by wineries which have lead to top quality red and white wine production, with wines grown in this region suitable for prolonged ageing.
