Cajon de Maipo, Chile This large region surrounds the city of Santiago and extends from the Andean foothills west to the Pacific coast. Much of the vineyard has been established in the warmer Santiago suburbs and supplied high quality Merlots and Cabernets to the capital. More exciting development is coming from new vineyard plantings in the less accessible coastal land, south of the San Antonio Valley, where coastal fogs prolong ripening and create intense varietal flavours.
