Malbec
Malbec or ‘Cot’ has its origins in southwest France where it is cultivated in Cahors, the Loire Valley and as a blending partner to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in Bordeaux.
This grape variety is also very widely planted in Argentina and is considered to be its principal variety. It has adapted well to the high altitude Mendoza region and thrives in this climate (hot days and cold nights). Malbec provides a rich colour with good fruit extract.
It is usually full bodied but supple with a plummy and spicy-scented fruit, which is considered the hallmark of the variety. Rosé made from Malbec retains plenty of character and elegance.
