Pinot Blanc

Pinot Blanc

Pinot Blanc is originally thought to have been a clone of either Chardonnay or Pinot Gris. Whilst it can still be traced as a remnant in some vineyards in Burgundy, Pinot Blanc enjoys a higher profile in other regions. In Alsace and Germany it is a source of attractive dry white wine with fresh apple and peach character.

Its status in California is confirmed as an elegant alternative to Chardonnay, sometimes receiving the same oak treatment. In northern Italy and Austria it offers more acidity but less concentration, depending on yields and its relatively high acidity offers a base for sparkling wines.

It also flourishes in Alpine regions of Slovenia and Switzerland and in many other East European countries.
