New World given an Italian dressing
Situated on Aucklands east coast, Enzo and Margaret Bettio`s estate covers 40 acres of the Clevedon Valley. Extensive research by the couple highlighted that the climate and soil conditions were similar to those found in Alba in Italy. The property overlooks the Coromandel Peninsula and Waiheke Island and grows Italian grape varieties which allow Enzo to create Amarone and Ripasso style wines, the first to do so in New Zealand.
The mash from the grapes is fed to the deer that the Bettios have on their land - a much anticipated reward for their part in the eco system which exists in the vineyard.
