Region

Saint-Émilion and Pomerol sit next to each other on the right bank of Bordeaux. Saint-Émilion is home to some of the most prestigious wines in the world such as Cheval Blanc and Angelus. Only red wine qualifies for the appellation and is predominately made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Pomerol is located in the east of the Bordeaux region, near Saint-Émilion. While most appellations are named after a village or town within their boundaries, Pomerol has no such epicentre. Pomerol is an 800ha gravel bank with boasts the famous names of Petrus and Le Pin and produces wines made predominantly out of Merlot.

Producer

Beau-Séjour Bécot is a Premier Grand Cru Classé that shows off its superb terroir admirably. It is situated to the west of St-Emilion, on limestone soils reminiscent of those found at Château Ausone. The estate has had a turbulent past, losing and regaining its 1er Grand Cru status, but it is now one of the leading Grand Cru Classés and only Château Pavie is larger in terms of vineyard size in this part of St-Emilion. It has been owned by the Bécot family since 1969, who added their name to the estate. Prior to their arrival it was known as Château Beauséjour-Fagouet and historically the vineyards were once part of a significantly larger estate which was split in the 18th century. The Bécot’s also make their own garage-style wine, La Gomerie.
Tasting Notes
Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot is a great style of Saint Emilion combining richness, soft texture, and minerality. Concentrated fruit with notes of plum and blackcurrant combined with elegant hints of oak and spice. The vineyards are located on the limestone plateau of Saint Emilion with a terroir of clay with deep limestone soils. There are 17 hectares of Merlot and a dash of Cabernet Franc. A classic right bank claret, always great value from the Becot Family.
Food
Ideally served with roasts, such as beef or venison.
